The sands of Shell Beach give it a unique aspect that most won’t expect to see on America’s west coast. Unlike with most beaches in the Pacific region, Shell Beach has a more rocky surface, as opposed to the granulated sands that are normal for beaches on the central coast.
As well as its uniquely textured sands, aquatic life can be seen at Shell Beach much more frequently than others. Visitors will often come across marine life such as urchins, crabs, and even octopi hiding the rocky crevasses.
Shell Beach is located just before Avila and can be seen off the US 101 freeway. It is considered to be a part of Pismo Beach, as its population and demographic information is included within the Pismo census.
